THE CHALLENGE

Hazardous reagents, recorded by hand

Three laboratories, each with its own administrator, keep toxic and hazardous reagents, liquids and powders, in explosion-proof cabinets and refrigerators.

Paper logs

Who took what, and how much, was written down by hand, and often wrongly.

Bottles not returned

A bottle taken and never brought back was hard to trace, and a real safety risk.

“Two people, two locks”

The rule meant a manager walking to the cabinet with the technician every time.

Counting by hand

Stocktakes took time, and there was no data to guide what to order.

The cabinets are custom units connected to the ventilation system and could not be moved or modified. So the solution works around them: a smart lock for the door, an identity on every bottle.

THE SOLUTION

Lock, tag, weigh: every bottle accounted for

Four pieces work together. Together they replace padlocks and paper logs with approvals, identity and weight.

Bluetooth smart lock

Replaces the padlock on each cabinet. Opens only with a short-lived code from an approved request.

RFID tag on every bottle

A UHF tag on the base gives each bottle a unique identity from the day it is received.

A platform with a built-in reader beside the cabinet. A tablet guides every check-out and return.
