SUCCESS STORY / SMART SORTING FOR DENTAL MODEL PRINTING
From hunting for models to one scan
Prismlab makes 3D printing equipment and materials for digital dentistry, and is a leader in China. Its customers print large batches of dental models every day, and every model must reach the right customer order. Thingple’s AI reader reads the number on each model and finds its order, and the right bin answers.
Prismlab now offers the smart sorting system to its own customers.

RESULTS AT A GLANCE
Less time spent sorting
Reported for dental model printing clinics using the system.
THE CHALLENGE
Printed models, still sorted by hand
After printing, every dental model has to be matched to a customer order. In a busy printing workshop, that step slows everything down.
Hunting by hand
Staff look through stacks of order sheets to find where each model belongs.
Checking one by one
Every match is checked by eye, model after model.
Capacity lost
Inefficient steps eat into the output of the printers.
HOW IT WORKS
Read, match, find: one scan and the right bin answers
Three steps replace the search. Nobody relabels anything, because the number is already printed on the model.
Read
The handheld reader’s AI model reads the number printed on the dental model.
Thingple AIMatch
The software finds the customer order and the bin that model belongs to.
SoftwareFind
The Bluetooth clip on that order beeps, and the worker drops the model straight into the bin.
BluetoothThis deployment uses Bluetooth clips. The same Read and Match steps also drive Thingple’s RFID version: the handheld starts an RFID search, and the bin’s tag, which has a small LED, lights up.
WHERE ELSE THIS WORKS
Anything with an ID printed on it and an order to match
The approach fits wherever items already carry a printed or stamped number, arrive mixed after a batch step, and are handled by people.
Optical and electronic assembly
Kitting for many work positions
Assembly lines issue many small parts and sub-assemblies to hundreds of work positions. Read the part’s printed ID, match it to the work order, and the right tray or position answers.
See Connected MES →Lab samples and reagents
Finding the right sample, fast
Sample tubes and reagent bottles carry printed or handwritten labels. Read the label, match it to the request, and the right rack position or bottle answers. It builds on the reagent management already running at SUEZ.
Read the SUEZ story →Not for every site: where items already carry a clean barcode a plain scan is enough, and very high-speed lines suit fixed cameras.
